Description

Whiting is the smallest fish of the Cod family, with a silvery-grey body and rounded belly. It is rarely caught over 2kg in weight. In 2016 approximately 2000 tonnes of whiting worth £2.5 million were landed in Shetland.  A variety of types of trawl net are used to catch whiting and they occur in a number of mixed fisheries. This is often an overlooked fish but, like Coley, Whiting fillets are a good buy when very fresh.
